Editor-In-Chief
California Broker Magazine

Kate Kinkade, CLU, ChFC, the editor-in-chief of the California Broker, is a veteran insurance professional with 25 years in the industry. Unlike editors of most trade publications, Kinkade remains active in the industry she writes about, with her own independent retail life insurance agency in Southern California. She has consistently produced well in excess of Million Dollar Round Table levels, and works in some of the most sophisticated areas of life insurance sales.
Kinkade started with Equitable Life in 1973, became a sales manager for that company, and developed an employee benefit sales program which was later adapted by Lincoln National Life under her supervision. She was a vice president in the field operation of Lincoln National from 1977 to 1981, when she started her own agency. She qualified for the top sales honors of both companies during her tenure there.
Kinkade also founded The Marketing Company in 1979, a telemarketing operations providing qualified leads to life and health insurance agents.
Kinkade has received recognition for her efforts in health insurance reform and life insurance solvency issues from industry associations and from the California Insurance Commissioner. Her writing regarding AIDs-related insurance issues was referenced in the development of underwriting and privacy regulations by the California State Legislature. Her writing on health insurance reform remains part of the record of committee hearings which resulted in AB1672, and was used by the federal legislative committees developing health care reform in the mid 1990s.
Kinkade is a frequent speaker for Life Underwriters, Health Underwriters, CLU, and International Association of Financial Planners associations. She also speaks on insurance industry topics for other professional organizations, such as bar associations and CPAs.
Being an active and successful insurance agent gives Kinkade a unique perspective as an editor. She looks for articles which would be helpful in her own practice and that of her peers. She researches and writes on topics she sees as vital to the industry in which she is so actively engaged. When she writes or chooses articles, she is looking for the perspective of the professional insurance agent.
